Strive, if you want to Survive!!

Evolution begins in the survival of the fittest…. So does the world!!

There is one R that I would appreciate in an individual if he has the quality of Respect for the self. Yes!! At the same time I have always hatred for two other R’s: Reservations and Recommendation. The reason may be because I don’t fall in to any reservation category and that I always feel that only those people who don’t have potential to fetch things for them. So they are seen as backbone-less individuals.

When my job hunt begun, I was damn particular that I would always find a position for myself and that recommendations are seen as a prestige issue that I would even sit at home doing nothing rather than sitting in a highly paid job that came by reco. There was one friend of mine who stood by this decision of  mine. I was thus happy that there is atleast one person to think alike me. It was that time he told me a short story of a butterfly which still motivated me. It goes like this.

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. As he kept watching, a small crack appeared and the man watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress and to the man who was watching this, it appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther.

That’s when the man decided to help the butterfly. So what he did? He took a pair of scissors,  snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon and then the butterfly emerged out happily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would grow and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.

Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

What this man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were nature’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If nature allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we could never fly…

So if life puts us through tough times, understand that the best is waiting for you yet… As I always believe, life is like a spring board.. As much as you go down, you’ll go heights….. As much as you are compressed, that much you’ll go up…. Life is a circle, once a bloomy day leads next to a gloomy day !!

  1. A very inspirational write-up indeed. I do agree with you that struggle is indispensable until finally you reach your goal, that makes you realize the importance of what you have achieved. However reservation was resorted to as the only constitutional means in order to provide the necessary support to the socially handicapped multitude, who have duly struggled their life in a hope to see the light of the day. With that said, it becomes a moral responsibility of those, who have already achieved this support, to relinquish these benefits and clear the line for those who actually need this to lead a life with dignity. Moreover with the competition on rise, the differences in the merits of virtuous general category and the reserved category are diminishing. So our government should stop this and improve upon the implementation part to provide the best education and training to the downtrodden as well as the affluent ones. Why not to co-educate the rich and poor children with the state-of-the-art infrastructure and the foremost faculty─obviously the youth of any class, represents the future of India, deserves to be groomed in the sincerest possible ways. Maximum fund allocation must be towards the mental and physical development of our youth, as they don’t represent any class-caste-creed, they form the bedrock for sustained growth of our Gen-Z-India( now Gen ‘Z’ has superseded Gen ‘Y’, I just read it online!)
